The journal “International Economic Policy” supports the principles and values of Open Science and considers open research data (FAIR data) an essential component in ensuring the transparency and reproducibility of scientific research. The Open Data Policy complements the journal’s Open Access Policy.
The editorial board encourages authors to manage and share research data underlying published results in accordance with the FAIR principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, Reusability):
- Findable: data can be easily located by both humans and computer systems through unique identifiers (e.g., DOI).
- Accessible: data should be available via clearly defined protocols (e.g., open access or access upon request).
- Interoperable: data should be presented in formats that allow integration and use with other datasets.
- Reusable: data should be well-described (metadata), have a unique identifier (e.g., DOI), and be accompanied by an appropriate license (e.g., Creative Commons).
This implies free online access to materials, archival data, and research outputs, which may be used, copied, and distributed in accordance with licensing terms and with mandatory attribution to the original source.
Recommendations for Authors
The editorial board recommends that authors:
- ensure access to research data supporting the results of the study;
- adhere to the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable);
- provide sufficient description of the data to enable reuse.
The provision of open data is encouraged but not mandatory and should take into account:
- legal requirements;
- ethical constraints;
- personal data protection;
- commercial or confidential information.
Types of Research Data
Research data may include:
- statistical or empirical datasets;
- survey and experimental results;
- analytical tables and calculations;
- software code, algorithms, or models;
- other materials that ensure reproducibility of research results.
Data Deposition
Authors may deposit research data:
- in international open repositories (e.g., Zenodo, Figshare);
- in institutional repositories;
- as supplementary materials on the journal’s platform.
It is recommended to choose repositories that ensure:
- long-term data preservation;
- assignment of a DOI or another persistent identifier;
- open access to materials.
Data Citation
When data are deposited, authors must:
- provide a link to the repository in the text of the article;
- include the dataset in the reference list (if a DOI is available);
- add a “Data Availability Statement” describing data accessibility.
Access Restrictions
Any restrictions on data access must comply with the applicable legislation of Ukraine, particularly in the areas of personal data protection, commercial secrecy, and confidential information.
Where data sharing is not possible, authors must specify the reasons, including:
- confidentiality or personal data;
- commercial secrecy;
- contractual restrictions;
- ethical considerations.
In such cases, the following options are acceptable:
- partial data sharing;
- access upon request;
- description of the data without full disclosure.
- Role of the Editorial Board
The editorial board:
- encourages open data sharing;
- does not bear responsibility for the content and accuracy of the data provided;
- may verify the presence of data availability information;
- considers data openness as a positive indicator of research quality.
Compliance with International Standards
The journal’s Open Data Policy aligns with:
- Open Science principles;
- recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE);
- FAIR principles for research data management.
