Main

The journal “International Economic Policy” recognizes the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in scholarly activities and establishes principles for their responsible and ethical use in the preparation, submission, and peer review of academic materials.

The use of AI tools is permitted exclusively as a supporting instrument in the research and publication process. AI cannot be considered an author of a scholarly work and does not bear responsibility for its content. Responsibility for the accuracy, reliability, and scientific validity of the materials rests entirely with the author(s).

Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use AI tools for:

  • language editing and stylistic improvement of the text;
  • auxiliary data analysis;
  • structuring of the material.

Authors are required to:

  • verify the accuracy of all results obtained using AI;
  • not use AI to generate unreliable or fabricated data;
  • clearly disclose the use of AI in the article (where applicable);
  • not list AI as a co-author.

Use of AI by Reviewers

Reviewers are discouraged from using AI tools to evaluate manuscripts, as this may compromise confidentiality.

If AI is used, the reviewer must:

  • not share the full manuscript with third parties or external services;
  • ensure the confidentiality of the materials.

Use of AI by Editors

Editors may use AI tools for:

  • technical text checks;
  • identifying potential integrity issues;
  • optimizing editorial processes.

At the same time, editors:

  • do not rely solely on AI-generated outputs;
  • ensure human oversight in all decisions.

Ethical Restrictions

The following are prohibited:

  • using AI to generate falsified results;
  • manipulation of data or sources;
  • generation of pseudoscientific content;
  • undisclosed use of AI.

Transparency in the Use of AI

If AI tools are used, authors must disclose this in the manuscript (e.g., in the “Methodology” section), including a brief description of how they were used.

Compliance with International Recommendations

The journal adheres to current international recommendations on the use of AI in scholarly publishing, including principles of transparency, accountability, and academic integrity, as well as the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
