Article Retraction Procedure
General Provisions
The editorial board of the journal “International Economic Policy” ensures transparency and integrity of scholarly publications. In cases where significant violations or errors are identified after publication, the editorial board acts in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and this procedure. Retraction is a mechanism for correcting the scholarly record and is not intended as a punitive measure.
Grounds for Retraction
Retraction may be applied in the following cases:
- detection of plagiarism or self-plagiarism;
- fabrication or falsification of data;
- significant methodological errors affecting the validity of conclusions;
- incorrect authorship;
- undisclosed conflicts of interest;
- duplicate publication;
- violation of research ethics.
Initiation of the Procedure
The retraction procedure may be initiated by:
- the editorial board;
- the author(s);
- a reviewer;
- a reader;
- the author’s institution.
The request must include a reasoned justification and, where possible, supporting evidence.
Review Procedure
The initial assessment is conducted by the Editor-in-Chief. The author(s) are contacted and asked to provide explanations. If necessary, independent experts may be involved. The final decision is made by the editorial board. The review period shall not exceed 30 calendar days.
Possible Decisions
Based on the review, the editorial board may:
- reject the request for retraction;
- publish a correction (corrigendum or erratum);
- issue an expression of concern;
- retract the article.
Publication of Retraction Notice
In the case of retraction:
- a separate retraction notice is published;
- the reason for retraction is clearly stated;
- the full bibliographic description of the article is retained;
- the article is not removed from the website but is clearly marked as “Retracted”;
- the DOI remains active.
The purpose is to preserve the transparency of the scholarly record.
Retraction Initiated by Authors
Authors may request retraction if a significant error is identified. In such cases, the editorial board evaluates the good faith of the request and the nature of the issue.
Withdrawal Before Publication
If violations are identified prior to publication, the manuscript is rejected without initiating a retraction procedure.
Notification of Relevant Parties
In cases of confirmed serious violations, the editorial board may inform:
- the author’s institution;
- funding bodies;
- relevant academic institutions.
Transparency
All retraction decisions are documented and published openly on the journal’s website. The editorial board adheres to the principle of minimal intervention and maximum transparency.
